5/30/2023 0 Comments Thinking fast![]() ![]() ![]() Let us dive into my UX learnings from the book “Thinking Fast and Slow”. “Thinking Fast and Slow” is a thick book, that showcases the research-work that Psychologist Daniel Kahneman (Economics Nobel Winner) had done in his life. That is why I always found Psychology to be the closest scientific field with Design. The science of Design goes around the people and their behavior. Design alone is purely a work of art but when it comes along with reasons and a clear thought process behind it, it manifests itself as a part of science. It is a question of debate whether Design is an art or science. Although I am a computer science student I always found interest in observing people’s behavior and their whys and hows, and Psychology is the science of behavior. My journey in UX Design starts with Psychology. The article is about what I learned from the best seller book of Daniel Kahneman, “Thinking Fast and Slow”, as a UX Designer. ![]()

5/30/2023 0 Comments 12 by Russell Molina![]() ![]() One can obviously see some Batman and Spidey elements in the book (where I love the 90s action Eddie Garcia-ish vigilante style but absolutely hate the New York Yankees cap). The cliched superhero moments are forgiveable because of the smooth execution and often hilarious ways they are seen in the panels. It is good that the main antagonist after this prologue volume is still more shrouded than exposed, and I can't wait to see how this group is connected with Mang Tino's discovery of his own superhuman strength. At least the cliffhanger end provided promising fates for these two supporting characters. ![]() Worse, it took toll on Tino's character in a sense that the lack of character depth can make one feel that the main hero could be just anyone. While the panels with his wife Aura felt sincere and while Tino's conversations with the trusty tanod are entertaining enough to make you smile, their monotonic roles bored me. This can be mainly attributed to the lack of character depth. But the main thesis of "what can an old superman do" seemed to be underutilized throughout the story. This four issue collected edition chronicles Tino's initial adventures interspersed with his daily responsibilities as a caring husband.Īn old man who can singlehandedly throw trucks? Awesome idea. Sixty-six volume 1 gives a proper and grounded introduction to the protagonist, Mang Tino, who in his old age has mysteriously acquired superhuman strength. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments Sartre nausee![]() ![]() ![]() His thoughts culminate in a pervasive, overpowering feeling of nausea which "spreads at the bottom of the viscous puddle, at the bottom of our time - the time of purple suspenders and broken chair seats it is made of wide, soft instants, spreading at the edge, like an oil stain. ![]() In impressionistic, diary form he ruthlessly catalogues his every feeling and sensation. Jean-Paul Sartre and Nausea Background Summary Full Book Summary Antoine Roquentin, a historian living in Bouville, France, begins a diary to help him explain the strange and sickening sensations that have been bothering him for the previous few days. Nausea is the story of Antoine Roquentin, a French writer who is horrified at his own existence. It is unquestionably a key novel of the twentieth century and a landmark in Existentialist fiction. Among readers and critics familiar with the whole of Sartre's work, it is generally recognized that his earliest novel, La Nausée (first published in 1938), is his finest and most significant. Nausea is written in the form of a diary that narrates the recurring feelings of revulsion that overcome Roquentin, a young historian, as he comes to. ![]() It is considered Sartre’s fiction masterwork and is an important expression of existentialist philosophy. I underestimated what a destructive part of my life alcohol had become. "While I'm proud of us, it was incredibly hard and I made a huge mistake. The point isn’t that Leilani is trafficking in some kind of hep new-speak involving phone sex you can new-speak until the cows come home, but you can’t have sex with somebody who’s not there with you. The novel’s first line is: “The first time we have sex, we are both fully clothed, at our desks during working hours, bathed in blue computer light.” The ‘we’ here are our two main characters, Edie, a poor twenty-something working stiff at a New York publishing house and Eric, a forty-something married man, and in this opening scene, they’re not even in the same part of town, much less in the same room - so they aren’t having sex. ![]() ![]() There’s something telling about the fact that Raven Leilani’s much-hyped debut novel Luster opens with a transparent misstatement of fact - a lie, in other words - about sex. ![]() ![]() Recommendation: If you’re in the mood for lighter SF fare, check it out. If you’re in the mood for hard SF, this is not your jam. ![]() This was so off-putting that I stopping reading the book a couple times before picking it up again. Few of the aliens in the book feel actually alien, but rather like humans in costumes. Several of the chapters feel unnecessary, and the book’s ending was a little lackluster. There are some issues that keep me from giving The Long Way a full-throated recommendation. Most of the story is the adventures the crew has as they travel to the planet (hence the book’s title). ![]() The characters are bright and quirky, so if you’re in the mood for a story about goofy people getting along in a sci-fi setting, you should pick this up.Ī ragtag crew in a rickety spaceship are tasked with creating a wormhole near a planet populated by an exceptionally warlike race. The irony is the original “All Creatures” was not a 'Masterpiece' property. premiere (on Channel 5) coincided with the book’s anniversary, while PBS (which is a co-producer) held it to be part of the planned 'Masterpiece' anniversary celebration. But this is the first reboot for “All Creatures.” Part of the reason for bringing the show back now is Herriot’s works themselves are also 50 years old - “If Only They Could Talk” was published in 1970. ![]() Since then, there have been other Herriot adaptations and even a reality series inspired by his stories. ![]() 5/30/2023 0 Comments Samantha irby wow no thank you![]() ![]() “It's so weird that adults in committed relationships have a problem with something so innocuous as flirting. ![]() And it's easily the best thing I've ever felt.” This feels safe, and steadfast, and predictable. Well, it's taken me decades to finally dare to read it, and it was rather a piece of cake. This was a book that I remember seeing a copy of when I was in first or second grade, and I tried to read a few pages and decided that it was just too advanced a book for me to read, and I thenceforth decided that I was never going to be a prolific reader. ![]() |
